Felsberg Diaries

Hi, there, friends! And welcome to my Felsberg Diaries. I came to Germany for the first time back in summer of 2011 to do a language course. My German level was at that time only A1, so you can imagine how scared I was of people talking to me or even looking at me. And Felsberg was the first town I have ever visited and lived in. So, in today’s post I would like to tell you more about it.

Rosenmontag in Germany – Carnival Time

Hey, there, friends! Carnival time is here! And today is a highlight of German Carnival season – it is Rosenmontag! Unfortunately this year due to pandemic, the Carnival is not celebrated with the same proportions as before. Especially here in Cologne. This year you can only see some small groups of two people in costumes walking outside with some music playing on their phones. At least that happened near my apartment. Completely different feeling from last years, right? When thousands of people would come out to the streets to meet the parade. People wearing different costumes and throwing candies and other delights at people. Good old times. Hopefully next year we will be able to fully enjoy this great holiday! Today, I want to tell you about this holiday! So what is the Carnival all about?

Castle Wilhelmsburg/ Schloss Wilhelmsburg

Schloss Wilhelmsburg in Schmalkalden

Hi, there, dear friends! It has been a while since my last post. Life happened as they say! But today I have prepared a new blog post for you about Castle Wilhelmsburg! It was one of my most favorite spots in Schmalkalden. On a sunny day I could just grab a cup of coffee and a croissant from nearby bakery, go up to the Castle, cozy up on one of the benches and enjoy the view on the town reading one of my books or even preparing for upcoming exams. Fresh air, castle, beautiful view of the town – what can be better? Now let me tell you a little bit more about the castle and show few pictures.

Photo Walk in Bad Salzungen

Hi, there, friends! Today I have decided to share with you my old Photo Walk around Bad Salzungen. This Photo Walk happened quite a while ago, back when I was a student in Schmalkalden. Since we had a free student ticket around Thüringen, we would often travel around the neighboring towns and villages. The nature there was just amazing!

The name Bad Salzungen comes from the word “Salz” translated as “salt”. It was named so due to the salt deposits in the region. Now the town is well-known for it’s salt water health resort. Actually if you noticed, many towns in Germany have “Bad” as a part of the name. Basically this means, that there is spa resort in the town (Bad Neuenahr-Arweiler, Bad Münstereifel)! All of them have spa resorts. Cool, right?

New Year’s Resolutions 2021

Howdy, there, my dear friends! Happy New Year 2021! Here we meet again, in a brand new year. I am very happy to see you and want to wish you an amazing year ahead. Let all your dreams and hopes come true. And, more importantly – stay healthy and safe. In today’s blog post I would like to talk about very interesting topic of New Year’s Resolutions. Have you ever heard of those? I bet you did. Simply put New Year Resolutions is a process in which people make a resolution, promise of a kind, to accomplish something in the upcoming year. Those can be very different – from walking more, eating healthier; doing more sports, taking a piano lesson to starting a new business, buying a house or even moving to another country. It is all up to your wish. Continue reading

New Year Celebration in Germany

New Year Celebration in Germany

I have moved to Germany quite some time ago and New Year 2021 will be my New Year number 7 here! Super exciting, right? Over the years, I have celebrated it in many different ways – I had attended student parties, celebrated in the company of my German neighbors, stayed alone during New Year’s Eve and spend time with my loved ones. And every time it was the most special time of the year. To be honest, it is rather similar to the way it is celebrated in Ukraine – with some differences of course. Therefore, today’s post I have decided to dedicate to New Year and the way it is celebrated in Germany! So, let’s start. Continue reading

Merry Christmas to You!

Hi, there, my dear friends! Today, 25th December, is a special time of the year – it is Christmas! Merry Christmas everyone! I hope this year will bring you lots of happiness and health! To me this is very beautiful day, filled with joy, aroma of eggnog and room filling with endless array of Christmas songs and binge watching of Christmas movies. I personally love it – watching Home Alone is like a sacred tradition for me and my family to do on Christmas. This year, I have always added new movie Christmas Chronicles to the list. Will be watching second movie this evening. Yesterday was Christmas Eve and I wanted to share with you how I spent it in Cologne.
